This is the first of two emails today to keep you updated on the government’s response to coronavirus (COVID-19).

We would like to apologise for not sending an update yesterday. GOV.UK experienced site-wide technical issues and we were unable to provide you with the links to our updated guidance. This information is now available so we’re sending this message now and will follow up with a further update later on today.

Updated guidance for education, childcare and children’s social care settings

We have updated our guidance for schools, further education, children’s social care services and apprenticeships to reflect the end of National Restrictions and how education, childcare and children’s social care settings should operate under the local restriction tiers. There are no substantive changes for settings to act on.

For schools we have clarified the position under the local restriction tiers for:

  •          face coverings
  •          transport
  •          educational visits
  •          music, dance, drama – performances
  •          physical activity in schools

For further education we have clarified the position under the local restriction tiers for:

  •          face coverings
  •          managing national and local restrictions
  •          safe behaviour off-site
  •          residential providers

For children’s social care services we have clarified the position under the local restriction tiers for:

  •          support for foster families
  •          access to respite care
  •          short break services
  •          restrictions on visitors/gatherings in residential settings
  •          mental health of Looked After Children and careleavers

For apprenticeships we have clarified the position under local restriction tiers:

  •          apprenticeship training and assessment can continue to be delivered under national restrictions and all local restriction tiers.
