History

History at King Ina School is delivered through three big questions and three big ideas:
History at King Ina Academy
Our Vision for History

At King Ina Academy, we want every child to develop a curiosity about the past, understand how people and events have shaped the world we live in today, and become confident young historians who can ask questions, explore evidence and form their own interpretations of the past.

Our history curriculum is designed to align with the National Curriculum for History in England, providing children with a coherent, knowledge-rich learning journey from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 2. We aim to develop children’s understanding of British history and the wider world, helping them to recognise how the past has influenced the present and to appreciate the diversity of human experiences across different periods and civilisations.

In line with the National Curriculum, our history curriculum focuses on developing historical knowledge, chronological understanding and historical enquiry. Children learn about significant people, events and changes over time, develop an understanding of historical concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity and difference, and learn to use historical sources and evidence to ask and answer questions about the past.

We want history to be engaging, meaningful and inspiring, encouraging children to investigate, question and think critically. Through carefully sequenced learning, children build on prior knowledge, make connections between different historical periods and develop an understanding of how Britain has been shaped by its past and how its history connects with the wider world.

Our aim is for every child to leave King Ina Academy with a secure foundation of historical knowledge, the skills to think like a historian and an appreciation of the past that inspires curiosity, informed discussion and lifelong learning.
