King Ina Church of England Academy is an inclusive school where ALL pupils are supported. It is our aim for all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) that:
Within our secure Christian environment, our vision is to develop healthy, happy, motivated learners who aspire to achieve their full potential and who look to the future with confidence.
All Somerset maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and we are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible academic, social and emotional progress in school. Somerset have given priority to ensuring that their SEND provision is fit for purpose and the Somerset Graduated Response Tool sets out the barriers to learning that children and young people may have and the strategies and provision that could be in place to support them.
The information within the attached document ‘SEND Information Report’ highlights how we identify, support and assess pupils with SEND to ensure they make appropriate progress.
Mrs Jodie Stock (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and Mrs Laura Ruddle (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) are the SENCo's (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinators) for Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Mrs Clare Horsey is the SENCo at Owlets - our onsite Nursery. All SENCo's work closely together to draw on each other’s knowledge and expertise.
If you need to discuss your child’s needs please speak to their class teacher initially, then make an appointment to speak with a SENCo by contacting the School office.
The SENCo's works alongside the Senior Leadership Team to ensure appropriate and inclusive provision for all our pupils.
According to the SEND Code of Practice: 0-25 years (2014), special educational provision means: Educational provision which is ''different from or additional to'' that normally available to pupils or students of the same age, which is designed to help children and young people with SEN or disabilities to access the National Curriculum at school or to study at college.
At King Ina Church of England Academy we ensure that we comply with Section 6.79 of the Code of Practice, this can be accessed via the link below.
Our policy is to identify specific difficulties at an early age and work alongside parents to establish individual's strengths, needs, targets and provisions. We follow a cycle of Assess, Plan, Do, Review (APDR) alongside the Somerset Graduated Response Toolkit.
If your child has a a APDR cycle, we will meet with parents and involve external professionals, where appropriate, to review need and provision for your child.
