Developing Our Curriculum
At King Ina Academy, we are continuing to develop a curriculum that inspires curiosity, builds confidence and creates a genuine love of learning. Our aim is for every lesson to be fun, engaging and purposeful, giving children opportunities to explore ideas, ask questions, make connections and apply what they have learned.
A key part of our developing curriculum is a strong focus on oracy. We want our children to become confident communicators who can express their ideas clearly, listen carefully to others and develop the vocabulary they need to understand and talk about the world around them. Through purposeful discussion, questioning, partner work and opportunities to explain their thinking, children are encouraged to use talk as an important part of their learning.
We are also placing a greater emphasis on learning that lasts. Rather than simply learning something for a lesson or a test, we want children to remember and build upon their knowledge over time. Teachers are developing opportunities for children to revisit important knowledge, make links between subjects and previous learning, and regularly retrieve what they already know.
Our curriculum development brings these three strands together:
Fun and engaging learning → purposeful talk and oracy → knowledge that is remembered and built upon.
We are excited about the continued development of our curriculum and the opportunities it will provide for our children to become curious, confident and knowledgeable learners.
